Personal Safety Tips On How To Use Pepper Spray

Question: How properly do I use Pepper Spray ?

Answer:  If you’re going buy pepper spray you might hesitate with the simple question: How do I use pepper spray?€ Fortunately, pepper spray is extremely simple to use. Nevertheless, you should practice and visualize how to use pepper spray in an emergency. (Make sure that when you practice, it’s with a substitute object the same size as the canister to avoid accidents.)

1- Stay alert and be aware of your surroundings.

2- Get familiar with your product. The first thing you need to know about pepper spray is an inflammatory agent is going to cause eyes to shut involuntarily which gives you an opportunity to scape. This is going to cause eyes to shut on a person who may even be under influence of drug or alcohol.

4- Know the distance and numbers of shots.

4- Besides of knowing character of your pepper spray , you also need to be familiar to how using your hands .One of the tricks we want to teach you here is, when you are home sitting on couch watching TV. Put a canister around you. When your eyes closed try to reach for that ad present it towards imaginary thread with the nozzle pointed in a right direction. That’s how familiarity you need to be with your pepper spray. So, when you are in a high press situation, you are best prepared to protect yourself. Do that in multiple times and of course, when you are in a real scenario you will have your eyes open when presenting pepper spray towards thread and spraying it.

5- Make sure your pepper spray is accessible. Is not going to do any good if you have your pepper spray in your purse or pocket during attack. So, always have it in your hand. Especially, when you are alone or in any vulnerable situation. Whether it would be a parking lot or just entering or exiting  the dark building. If you want to maintain a low profile that’s fine as long as your hand is on the device you can keep your hands in the pocket or put the device in your purse.

6- Proper grip. A concern that some people have is, would be an attacker take the canister from me? You can solve this problem with a right grip. The first thing is, knowing which finger to deploy the canister with and it is your thumb. So many people I see using their index finger but you want to use your thumb that way you have to grab your other four fingers  securely around the canister with a good firm grip. Use your thumb to deploy it. If you do this, you will also have ability to strike the attacker with your fist.

7- Arming and disarming your device. Make sure to know how to arm and disarm your device. In order to arm your device, you simply take the switch and slide it as far right as you can. Only disarm the device when you know you are in a safe place.

Note; instruction refers to Twist-lock models. Check the back side of packaging for non-twist-lock models.

8- Keep pepper spray out of reach of children.

9- Spray patterns. Once you armed it and you are ready to spray, you need to know what kind of spray pattern the product has to maximize your effect with that spray pattern.

Stream and gel are the most popular patterns. With those you are going to spray ear to ear across the eyes if you missed with the first shot, do it reverse and go back across the eyes and saturate the corneal area. Take advantage of your attacker.

With the cone delivery spray or fogger, you are going to spray up and down towards the center of face.

With the foam delivery, circle around the center of face. When you are going to face an attacker, eyes is going to be the most important.

10- Present with authority. You need to decide and when you are ready to deploy the mechanism, make sure you present it with authority and keep your opposite arm against attacker. This is good for couple of reasons .It helps to push away an attacker which already is in range. It also causes you  to push him off  once again and spray when he comes out quickly.

11- Be a hard target. Also as a preventative measure juts make sure you are a hard target. You can do this by using confident body language. Keep your head up, your shoulder is back and walk with a little attitude also be always scanning the areas that you are prepared for potential threads.

Question: Some of the reviews said it was hard to spray, is that true?

Answer: Not hard to spray at all. Easy to spray but doesn't keep the predator away. You slide the switch press and spray.

An swer:It depends on pepper spray's delivery pattern.

Question: How many sprays does this have?

Answer: If you are asking individually how much. It really depends on how long you hold it down to dispense the spray.

Question: Can I spray this on my lawn to keep dogs out?

Answer: I don't think it's a repellent in that way. This product is meant to be sprayed at someone for immediate effect. It's not long lasting, certainly not a week. Also, it's oil based but not waterproof so a rain will wash it away. For deterring  dogs and animals see our special products like , Dog repellents and Bear reppellents

Question: What is differences between animal (Dog or Bear) spray and human Pepper spray?

Answer: Dogs and other animals have much more sensitive senses of sight and smell, so it takes much less OC (oleoresin capsicum, the active ingredient in pepper spray) to affect them and keep you safe.

Question:Can I buy refill cartridges for them?

Answer: No, you can't. It is not refillable.

Question: Does it unlock easy in your purse? I don't want it spilling in my purse.

Answer: It does not unlock easily in the purse. It has a switch on the top as seen on the right one that you have to turn to spray. I have it with me all the time, not in the purse but on my key-chain which I carry in my Jacket or pants pocket! Always at hand, purse I would need to search.

Question: Can you accidentally spray yourself? in an emergency I can envision doing this to myself.

Answer: No. It's a solid stream. I couldn't see that happening unless you sprayed it into a fan or the wind. And the trigger locks

Answer: Don’t panic. Remove all contaminated clothing. Flush the affected area with cool water. Warm water may intensify the burning and inflammation. Do not rub your face. Wash the affected area with non-oil or cold cream based soap. Don't apply oily lotions--they will trap OC resin onto your skin.

Question:Would this be good protection against dogs off leash, harassing me or my dog?

Answer: The product will work on dogs. But a spray which is affected by the wind would be hard to control if the dog is bouncing around you and your dog while harassing you. The wind may blow it back into your face or your dog.

Question: Where is the date of manufacture or expiration? It's not on the packaging and I don't see a sticker or stamp on the container either.

Answer:There should be a sticker on the case. The ones in stock here have one with the manufacturer logo and the expiration month and year.

Question: Can I use it after expiration date?

Answer: No, It is not recommended. So, always take a note of your pepper spray’s expiration date.

Question: Would a child be able to activate it (i.e. is it child proof)?

Answer: The packaging and state does not say it is child proof. All you do is flip the top and press the button and it fires. Put it in a safe place away from children.
